Watercolor asks you to give up a little control, and that is exactly where a painting comes to life. For as long as I can remember, I have painted the places and creatures that hold my heart: the working harbors and rocky coves of Maine, quiet parks and gardens closer to home, animals with personalities all their own, and the imagined worlds of children's books. Whether I am chasing storm light over Kennebunk or the exact red of a dinghy at rest, I am waiting for the moment a scene stops being a place and becomes a memory. Every original and print in this gallery began that way; I hope one of them finds its way into your home and does the same for you.

Beverly Ashley Broyles was born in Alameda, California, and has spent a lifetime following the light. Her path has carried her, and her sketchbooks, across the country and beyond: the Pacific Northwest of Oregon, the coast of Maine, England, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Tennessee, before settling in Rockford, Illinois. Each stop left its mark on her palette.
Along the way she has been a non-profit arts executive, a published children's book illustrator, an art educator, an agency graphic designer, and a corporate designer. Today, in addition to her independent painting, she teaches at a high school in Beloit, Wisconsin, where her classroom spans trade-based skills, new creative technology, and the fundamentals of art, helping students open new doors and follow their creative vision toward college and career.
